BROODING

Brooding

Our chickens are raised right here on our farm from day-old chicks to harvestable birds after a full and happy life on pasture.

The chicks arrive the day they are hatched and are immediately placed inside our brooding shed which provides warmth and protection while they grow out their feathers so they can thrive once they graduate onto pasture.

LIFE ON PASTURE

Life On Pasture

At approximately 3 weeks of age, the now teenage chicks are mostly feathered and ready to graduate into our purpose built Chicken Chalet, ready for their life on pasture.

Inspired by the Cobb Creek Farms’ Mobile Range Coop, our Chicken Chalets (the first of its kind seen in Australia) were proudly engineered and built by Sam, his brother Phil and his dad, Pieter, who have over 50 years of fitting experience between them.

Upon graduating into the chicken chalets the birds have direct contact to pasture. Once in the chicken chalets, there are up to 7.5 birds per square metre (much lower than the 20 birds per square metre in conventional poultry sheds, or even 12 birds per square metre in free range certified organic sheds).

The chalets are then moved daily to maintain optimum soil and animal health and are specifically designed to allow for natural behaviours (such as dust bathing and perching), fresh air and vitamin D from the sun.

The birds have 24-hour access to a smorgasbord of microorganisms, insects, seeds and grasses whilst being protected from harsh weather and predators such as foxes, hawks and eagles. The chalets are fitted with timed sprinklers, roll-down sides and airflow windows to ensure the birds are kept cool and happy on hotter days and warm on cooler days.

A life on pasture ensures our birds are happy and healthy, producing the very best chicken meat for Aussie families, and also plays a vital role in our farm’s soil building, sanitation, fertilisation and regeneration.

At full production, the pasture has 365 days to recover before another batch of chickens have contact with it. This allows the soil to rest and metabolise the nutrients imparted by the chickens allowing for plant recovery.

As omnivores, it’s important for our broiler chickens to have access to a variety of grains, minerals and vitamins to support strong bone health. We are continually sourcing the very best of WA’s feed for our chickens who are fed a blend of seasonal grains that are free of GMO’s, hormones and medications.

This means that our birds are harvested at roughly 8-12 weeks of age

Harvest

HARVEST

Our chicken, being raised directly on pasture, is naturally slow-grown.

This means that our birds are harvested at roughly 8-12 weeks of age (depending on the time of year), which is much longer than conventionally grown chicken which is harvested at 4-6 weeks of age.

Our chooks live a full and happy life on pasture, developing strong bones and flavour for an ethical and nutritious meat product.

Our birds are hand processed at Southampton Food Hub; located in Ballingup, WA.

Hand-processing means that real human hands are carefully and respectfully ensuring the meat is clean and safe for human consumption, eliminating the need for chlorine baths by a team of people who are passionate about the ethical and respectful treatment of animals and animal products.

Once completely processed, the chicken is then vacuum-packed or crated in lined tubs for further processing and chilled right away in a blast-chiller.

The chicken is then transported to our trusted and local butcher via our refrigerated van, who breaks the chicken down and portions them before cryo-vacing and snap freezing them at -20 degrees celcius so that you know you are receiving only the highest quality of meats.

The meat from chickens raised on pasture is naturally higher in vitamins A, D and E and has significantly higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids (the type that decreases inflammation) and lower levels of omega-6 fatty acids (the type that contributes to inflammation).

When you eat Rosa’s Ridge Chicken, you know that every bite is packed full of healing nutrients, making every meal last longer, taste delicious and go towards regenerating Aussie farmlands.

Our Mission

We’re on a mission to help you make the best decisions for your family and the environment.

We believe that one of the best ways to do that is by consuming the produce from animals raised directly on pasture.

By doing so, you’re supporting animals who are raised in natural, healthy conditions using soil regenerating practices—and that means better-tasting, nutrient packed, healing food for you.
